Starting the Dragon Trail

After the passing of Rosemary Dickens, my idol (and who just so happened to be my Grandmother) I didn’t want her life’s work to be lost and forgotten. It deserves to be seen, explored and enjoyed. Rosemary started The Dragon trail before I was born in the 80’s and carried on working on it for 25 years. Throughout my child hood she would take us to churches and ancient landscapes for what we thought were day trips out with Grandma and Mum, it turns out they were research trips for this huge project! Her research was thorough and vast. An obsession some may say.

In homage to Rosemary Dickens (and because I want to) I am starting The Dragon Trail, A Journey in Wessex. I will be joined by my Mum (Rosemary’s daughter) Mel and who ever wants to come along for the ride. I will be documenting our adventure on this blog.

“Knowlton is the start. The tail or root end of this imaginary geomantic dragon map which winds its way across the landscape, ending in Stonehenge” - Extract from The Dragon Trail book by Rosemary Dickens
